Kathmandu Valley Rim Stage Race – Stage 1.

A stage race distributed over weeks and months! Plenty of time for rest and recovery!

Ichangu Narayan Temple is located 3 mms northwest from Swyambhunath Temple.

We will have stage 1 race start from the Ichangu Narayan temple premises and will shortly connect it with the Manjushree Trail (the full around Kathmandu Valley Rim race course). After just a kilometre run, we will start a continuous uphill climb of distance about 4.5 km in which we will gain about 900 meters elevation gain. Since we will enter the Nagarjun National Park to reach the top Jamacho Peak , there will be no shops available so please carry at least 2 litres of water from the start line. Checkpoint 1 (CP1) too might not be completely ready by the time you reach there due to some strict rules of the National Park.

Once you make it to the top to Jamacho Peak CP1 you will have a beautiful view of the Kathmandu Valley down below and the majestic morning view of the Himalayas in the horizon. And now a long downhill forest run will be waiting for you until you reach CP2 at Mudkhu.

After CP2 a few km will be very exposed to the sun and there are few steep climbs as well.

Once you cross CP3 at Tarekeshwar Temple, you will enter Shivapuri National Park and will be running through the dense forest again. And now before reaching Gurjey Bhanjyang you will have to follow the trail markings to Surya Chaur CP4 which will be our our finish line. Finish line has some tea houses and the most spectacular mountain views if the weather is clear. After the race is finished, you will have to walk a kilometer to reach the bus stand to head back home to Kathmandu.
