KATHMANDU: Himalayan Marathon Club, Nepal is organising the Jumla-Rara Ultra Marathon on October 24. A total of 150 runners including men and women are expected to participate in the marathon, informed club president Chetan Raj Giri during a press meet on Thursday. The top three runners in both the events will get Rs 35,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively. (PR)

The race starts at Jumla bazaar (2305m), and finishes at the Rara tal lake (2800m). The course is a measured 26.3 miles/42.5 km and, although it is basically uphill and downhill, the trail undulates and there are two steep uphill (Dhaphe3500m) and (bhulbhule 2950m) The race starts at 6:00 am and there is cut-off points at Bhulbhule  (25km12.30 pm) . The race course is marked and it is the responsibility of each runner to look after your self because of there are additional hazards by way of narrow suspension bridges and mules trains

  • 18 – Sep 014 The application open. (closing date will be 2 weeks )
  • 5 – Oct Depart Kathmandu to jumla evening. (by bus or Air)
  • 6 – Oct Arrive Nepalgung in the evening.
  • 7 – Oct Depart Nepalgung to jumla.
  • 8 – Oct Arrive in Jumla in the evening.
  • 9 – Oct Briefing and Acclimatisation in jumla 1 day
  • 10 – Oct Rara MARATHON The race starts at Jumla bazar (2305m)
  • 11 – Oct Gamgadi rest day.
  • 12 – Oct Back to Jumla (sleep in Cautha.)
  • 13 – Oct Arrive in Jumla in the evening
  • 14 – Oct prize-giving party and jalpan
  • 15 – Oct Travel to Kathmandu by road or air

  • 6 Cautha 23.26 km 6th water point 2600m
  • 7 Bhul bhule 26 km 7th water point
  • 8 Ghu chi oralo 28.30 km 8th water point 3070m
  • 9 Khal 32.61 km 9th water point 2800m
  • 10 Ghadi padi 35.4 km 10th water point 2400m
  • 11 Ghyari 38km 11th water point 2500m
  • 12 Rara (race finish 42.5 k) 2800m

Minimum kit – All runners must carry the following kit:

  • Long sleeved thermal top and leggings
  • Windproof and waterproof jacket and trousers
  • Thermal head covering
  • Gloves
  • Whistle
  • Head torch and new battery
  • Water bottels ( water and small snake we will provied)
