The Wild Manaslu Kora, scheduled from March 30th to April 21st, 2024, offers an adventurous journey around Manaslu, the world’s eighth-highest mountain. Led by Lizzy Hawker, an elite athlete and experienced trail runner, the expedition explores the culturally rich Tsum Valley, visits remote gompas, crosses high-altitude passes, and concludes in Mustang via Tilicho Tal. Participants will experience the journey as a fastpack, moving swiftly through the breathtaking landscape.

The trip is not a traditional race or trek but lies somewhere in between, allowing flexibility in the itinerary. Described as a “Skydance,” the journey combines elements of traditional trekking with fast-paced exploration. The focus is on moving fast and light through Manaslu and onward to Mustang.

Lizzy Hawker, who holds a deep connection with the region, has completed the Manaslu Kora 13 times and crossed the challenging Larkya La pass on each occasion. The expedition promises unique experiences, including cultural immersion, stunning landscapes, and personal challenges.

Participants are expected to carry their own personal gear in a supported “fastpack” format. Accommodations include comfortable lodges and simpler monastery/homestays, with varied and plentiful food. The organizers handle logistics such as transport, food, and accommodation, allowing participants to focus on their personal challenges and experiences.

The journey is open to individuals who love mountains and seek a magical, off-the-beaten-path experience. Whether a runner, hiker, or mountaineer, participants should bring an adventurous spirit, a sense of humor, and a willingness to be challenged. The expedition promises a transformative experience, providing a different perspective on life.

Led by Lizzy Hawker and guide Laxman Khatri, the trip is organized by Hidden Trails Adventures and Kora Explore GmbH. The itinerary spans from Kathmandu to Manaslu, Mustang, and Tilicho Lake, with an option for an early exit on April 15th. The cost is 2780 EUR / 3040 USD, with variations based on individual requirements.

The expedition includes cultural and exploratory activities, such as visits to monasteries, exploratory walks to high passes, and the chance to experience life from a different perspective. The itinerary is detailed, covering various villages, monasteries, and high-altitude locations.

Participants must have travel or medical insurance covering helicopter evacuation, hospitalization, and repatriation. A trip cancellation policy is also recommended. The journey ends with return flights from Jomsom to Pokhara and Kathmandu.

In summary, the Wild Manaslu Kora offers a unique and challenging adventure, combining trail running with cultural exploration in the majestic Himalayan landscape, led by experienced guides in the spirit of fastpacking and skydance.
