The upcoming race being held in Pokhara, the Annapurna 100, has very few women entrants. Why is that? I asked "Himalayan Women to Seven Summits" if they wanted to join, but the notice was too short. But they did give this reply:
Sorry, we won't be able to. But we wish luck to all the participants. In our opinion the best way to get more women in sports, is to look into schools. Schools, both in city and villages have some level of sports activities. Many times women are involved in them during their school life and after that they stop. If we could reach them, in time, then I think we can get more women to enter races like this.
So perhaps next year's race has to have an element for school kids too?
