No Everest Sky Race in 2012. May we recommend the Manaslu Mountain Marathon Stage Race or checking out our Nepal trail running events page.

A new course this year for this mainly Francophone event organised by the vastly experienced Bruno Poirier and team.

Everest-Sky-Race-2009

A sky race trail

This stage race has 9 stages totalling 200 km, 11,000 m up, 7,000 m down. It starts in Dolakha and heads through the Rolwaling valley and crosses the Tashi Lapsa (a pass of some reputation at 5,755 m) before going on to cross the three-passes (Renjo La 5,340 m, Gokyo La / Ri 5,350 m, le Cho La 5,420 m), scaling Kala Pattar (5,540 m) and finally arriving at Ama Dablam basecamp at 4,700 m.

It sounds a tough race but a grand journey which will be the envy of any trekker. The course will give you some of the best possible views of Everest and the enormous surrounding peaks. It was a different route a few years ago, but worth reading this nicely prepared summary from Philippe Gatta.

This is no ordinary race as oxygen is much scarce and you need to train your lungs to adapt to this environment. Respiration exercises on an elevated training is essential. See these additional information about altitude respiration training.
