Over a month ago we fixed the date of the Annapurna 100 ultra trail race and have been busy promoting as busily as we can both home and abroad. One of the big aims for the race was to encourage Nepali women to partake. Last year has just 3 entrants and all were foreign. This year we’re really pleased that Nima Yangjee Sherpa (who is competing in the enormous Solukhumbu trail soon) will compete in the 100 km and bring 2 friends along, that 3 Sisters trekking have some of their lady trekking guides interested, and the 5 or 6 of the Himalayan River Girls club will run the race after competing in a kayak race on Pokhara’s Fewa lake the day before.
This is really great news and this in itself should do a lot raise the profile of trail running here in Nepal.
We also smartened up our website this week in order to look as professional as we are – and to better show off our generous race sponsors’ (Standard Chartered, Sherpa Adventure Gear and Summit Hotel) logos. In addition we now have the obligatory Facebook groups for Trail Running Nepal and Annapurna 100 which provide another easy way to keep in touch with running in Nepal.
Finally we wish luck to the competitors of the enormous Himal Race which is happening this month and also Roger Henke who is taking a mini-break from the busy tourist season in Kathmandu to run a relaxing 100 mile race on the outskirts of Delhi.
